Evaluating for success: Accompany doula Care

Amaka Consulting and Evaluation Services had the opportunity to work with Massachusetts-based doula organization, Accompanying Doula Care to evaluate the maternal telehealth services they provided for the last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through qualitative focus groups and quantitate surveys distributed to doulas, ACES found:

  • Overall, doulas have found telehealth services beneficial during this time of quarantine and social distancing due to COVID-19. Some unexpected benefits include scheduling telehealth visits around busy schedules and increased contact with expecting moms.

  • Although telemedicine is convenient and safe during COVID-19, it still does not replace physical contact and personal relationships developed through in-person visitation. The inability to apply physical techniques that are a big part of being a doula was echoed among several doulas.
